Updated 2026-09-25 · Interview Readiness
Developer interviews are not one exam. Junior and early-career loops still tend to circle the same abilities: explaining a system you touched, making a tradeoff explicit, and staying honest about what you did not build.
Themes to prepare
- A project walkthrough that starts with the user problem.
- An API or data shape you designed or consumed, and what broke when it changed.
- A bug you investigated, including the first hypothesis that was wrong.
- A testing or review step you actually used.
- A collaboration with someone who was not writing the same code: design, QA, or a stakeholder.
Practice prompts
Use these as prompts, not as a script. “Walk me through a feature you shipped or submitted.” “What did you decide not to build?” “How did you know it worked?” “What would you change if the deadline was half as long?”
Limits of a practice list
A company may add a live coding task, a take-home, or a system-design conversation that this list does not reproduce. Prepare the explanation anyway. It is the part candidates most often skip, including on the coding rounds.
