Behavioral answers need a shape.

Practice behavioral interviews with a story a listener can follow: what happened, what you did, and what came of it.

Behavioral questions are not a test of whether you have suffered an interesting problem. They are a test of whether another person can see your actions inside the story.

A usable shape

  • Situation: one or two sentences of context.
  • Task: what you were responsible for.
  • Action: the decisions you made, in order.
  • Result: what changed, including a result that is not a metric.

Do not invent a number to sound precise. If you do not have a measurement, say what improved in plain language and what you would measure next time.
